CUCKOO
A Poem by Ja
Why is it that, a cuckoo
Is locked up in a clock
While lunatics with guns
Are left, to run amuck

What do you mean by the cuckoo clock comparison? Insane asylums? Court ordered psychiatric care?
Most people involuntarily committed are no less dangerous than those involved in gun violence. A lot of them are there because of some type of weaponized violence against others and/or themselves. Your analogy is pretty weak if your intent is to demonize gun ownership as the extreme majority of gun owners are NOT lunatics.
This may shock you but since the early 90's violent crime in America has been on a steep decline. This year is different if you're in certain densely populated cities but if you use statistical controls to account for outliers like the south side of Chicago or Gary Indiana gun violence is drastically declining. in 1993 there were 15.3 deaths from firearms per 100,000 people. Today that number is 10.6/100,000. The number of crimes involving a firearm in general has declined even more precipitously from 725/100,000 in 1993 to 125/100,000 in 2015. (those numbers are readily available on the CDC and Pew Research Center's websites)
While it is fashionable to think otherwise due to the way America media covers gun violence and spree killings the numbers just don't back that narrative up in any way. I think your poem doesn't make sense in reality and plays off a distorted depiction that is only distorted to sensationalize and draw viewers to the news casts and garner sympathy for certain political causes not rooted in reality. Stuff like that hinders healthy debate and needlessly enflames emotions... your poem is not based in reality and displays an ignorance on the subject.
Just because it's a poem doesn't mean you should promote a political agenda born from a media machine trying to increase ratings with sensational stories of violence. Your poem is intellectually disingenuous or just pure ignorance. Either way... it's not good.
