Lead SecretsA Poem by AareaIt's strange that they tell you not to care, That we shouldn't care, That emotions are entitlement, "Don't you know that someone out there is starving?" Yes, I know that. It hurts me too. To know it, to hear it, But never to be told how to be a solution, To only be called the problem. I wonder if all you worry about, When you are starving, Is the next time you will get food. If there's not time to wonder, If your friends hate you, Discuss you behind your back, Watch you for the sake of psychology. I wonder if there's time to wonder, When your friend's father will hit her again, Bring her with blackened features, Hurt and lost. Or if another friend will die of starvation, No, not because a tourist ignored her outstretched hand, Then she would be able to hate her enemy, But it is her mother, Telling her she is too fat, That there are children starving somewhere, not here, That no one will ever love her if she keeps on that weight, I wonder if there's time to wonder, Whether your head will fill with these lead secrets, Pressing down on your throat, Until you suffocate from the inside, While others cry for themselves around your fallen body, So here. Have a twenty, a hundred, All of this useless greenery, If you will only take me to a place, Where all I can think about, Is the next time I will get food.
