Escaping ConformityA Poem by AareaEscaping
Conformity
If
a dove cried on an angel’s shoulder, Would
you hear it? Or
would you walk as you always do, Passing
me, passing life, Your
eyes down, your head up, Proud
and Dejected, At
once?
Would
you leave the gray walls of your conformity, A
cell to you? Or
would you peer from the bars as you always do, Not
trying, not daring, Your
mind bright, your mouth shut, Brilliant
and Silent, Afraid?
Would
the cry reach your ears, Would
you dare? To
leave your prison as you never have done, Breaking
bars, breaking walls, Walking
free, your eyes steady, Brave
and Daring, To
Die?
When
the keepers of the cells come, Will
you run? When
they come to put you back in your place, Killing
hope, killing doves, Chaining
you, your heart broken, Destroyed
and Dismayed, Into
your cell?
When
a dove cried on an angel’s shoulder, Did
you hear it again? Did
you sit as you always did, Passing
me, passing life, Your
eyes down, your head up, Proud
and Dejected, At
once?
Trapped
in the walls of your conformity, Chained
to your mistake? You
peered from the bars again, Now
trying, now daring, Your
mind bright, your hands strong, You
broke down again and saved the dove, Brave
and Daring, When
you died for the sake of one.
The
prison could not hold you then, It
freed you from its bars, How
grateful is the dove, That
you tried, that you came, Your
mind bright, your hands strong, Brave
and Daring, And
died for the sake of one. © 2014 AareaAuthor's Note
