Chapter Eleven

A Chapter by Reaching for the clouds
"

Travis and Alex approach the cabin.

"

"Well, way to almost blow our cover back there." Travis says to Alex when getting back into the truck.   “Oh. I get it.”  Alex says with a very sarcastic grin.  “We’re working together now aren’t we?”  Then she rolls her eyes again.  Alex then smiles and shoves her wrists together in front of his face, "I almost blew it didn’t I?”  Without a word Travis ties Alex's wrists and feet again.

“Be gentle please.  You gave me rope burn last time."

Travis says, “If you didn’t pull so hard on the ropes you wouldn’t have gotten the rope burn silly girl."

Alex mockingly glares at him and somehow says with a sparkle, "A*****e." Travis finishes tying her wrists and legs, and moves back into the driver’s seat before driving off.

After a while, Alex sits back and her hair gets in the way of her face. She sighs and tries to blow her hair to the side and fusses with it in frustration. Travis notices her from the mirror having a tough time and chuckles softly.

Alex looks up and sees him smiling and blurts out, "What’s so funny?"  But shakes his head and continues the journey without a word. A half hour now goes by without any more conversation.  This young lady is fun!

"Are we there yet, or is this an unending drive to Never Never land?"

Travis responds, "No, we’re not there. Just take a nap or something."

"Ha! You wish.  I’m gonna just keep bugging you until we get to this place.  Where are we going anyway?   I think I have a right to know.”

“Don’t worry.  We will have four walls and a roof over our heads.  There is food there and we will even have a bathroom.”  Travis smiles at this too since he has a feeling she won’t like the outhouse.

“Great!”   Alex says as she sets her head again the back head rest.

Travis starts to think about what he will do with his hostage when they arrive at the cabin. Should I tie her up inside somewhere and start making a few calls? Or, should we eat something before I do anything?  Would it be a good idea to get some sleep first and then start to get going on making some real plans for what to do with the in the morning?  Should I make a video of Alex first and send it to her parents?

A few minutes later Travis starts to hear some measured breathing from the back seat.  Has she finally drifted off to sleep in the approaching darkness?   Just 10 minutes or so and we will finally be there.  Too bad it will be dark.  I have missed seeing the cabin. I really love the place.

Travis and his sleeping passenger arrive at the cabin just after eight o clock.  Travis notices that a tree has broken off in the middle near where the main yard actually starts and is laying across the clearing near the fire pit.

Travis needs to decide on what to do.  Should he wake her up and have her walk with him into the cabin while tied up?  Should he allow her to sleep in the truck while he opens up the cabin and gets a few things ready? For one thing, he needs to turn the water on.  Should he just sit and chill for a while?  Travis decides that this young lady simply looks too calm and agreeable right now so he decides to sit back and take this chance to relax and think.

Very unexpectedly, Travis is jerked alert to the sound of a door shutting.

Alex has decided to make a run for it!  She quietly slips out of the truck and tries to shut the door without making any noise.  She knows Travis is still and in deep thought and wants take this chance to get away.  She had been biding her time for the past several hours trying to placate Travis into allowing her some freedoms.  She has easily gotten out of her hand restraints.

Dumb A*s!   He doesn’t even know how to make a knot!

Alex knows that she is a long way from freedom and her cell phone, even if the battery wasn’t already dead, certainly wasn’t going to be of much use in this wilderness.  Alex needs to find an access road in this darkness and hopefully get far enough along the road to be able to hitch a ride back to Dunlap.  Her problem right now is one of fatigue and hunger.  She never ate lunch today.

Alex quickens her pace on the grass and isn’t concerned about the quickest way out of site of Travis.  She just wanted to make an attempt to get out of here before things can get scary.  So far she feels like she was doing a good job of appearing calm and relaxed.  Alex was trying to seem harmless to Travis in order to lull him into a sense of control.

Alex becomes immediately terrified when she hears something behind her running up to her.
