Petit and frail looking,

With a confident and convincing gait you approached the track

Your sneakers had  kissed a million miles

Yet you wore them with pride

The crowd cheered their favorites on

You were no one’s favorite…at least not yet

Your wide eyes scanned the crowd

With a deep frown…

Then they landed on me…with unwavering confidence.

I smiled, because today you will be crowned by this very crowd

You took in deep breathes and positioned yourself 

Bang!

Your took off like a rocket.

Today your star will blaze the tracks!

Your legs eat up the tracks so fast!

Are you airborne? I wonder.

Carried by celestial wings???

The air is perfumed with excitement!!!

The crowd goes wild chanting your name as you breast the tape…

Leaving the others in the wake of your imaginary dust.

The track loves and honors you!

The chemistry between you is off the chains

It doesn’t matter where or when…

She gives you wings.

You were born to fly

…fly baby, fly high!

What a great metaphor...we start out alone no one cheering for us....but then we run a great race in life, make friends along the way, play fair, love what we do and love others...and in the end, as we breathe our last breaths, we are surrounded by those cheers that come as we ease into death.
