Unforgettable Toni

Unforgettable Toni

A Poem by Titilayo Sarah Eguridu
"

Tribute

"
Dear Toni,

You made me understand that not having blue eyes doesn’t make me ordinary
The narrative in Sula helped me put my life’s choices in perspective.
I learnt the meaning of paradox through Macon Dead Jr.
Oh, and Tar Baby was a welcome fusion of the haves and have nots.
Beloved broke the silence in the room.Your rich eccentric use of words made Beloved beloved.
The twist in Jazz, left me breathless and in awe of your writing prowess-a tragic story with a fun name.

Paradise helped me understand antithesis
You Toni were a tapestry of wonders.
Love is a proof that writers are gods.
Mercy, was hope painted in words and opened the door to Frank Money-what a story!
In God help the child, you share profound truths with the younger generation.
Bowed out of the stage with the Source of self regard.

You packed up tried and true wisdom, wrapped them in words and colors, gift wrapped them into books
Now your love is in millions of hands as your parting gift to the world.
I will miss anticipating your next book-but you only just started this journey and will continue telling your stories in eternity.

You are unforgettable Toni,
You took a piece of my heart with you.
Adieu...till we meet in God’s bossom.

Greetings, Titilayo Sarah Eguridu 🌺

By virtue of the sheer beauty of open, humble disclosure, you've laid bare your heart and soul in order that we might share the celebrated, award-winning author, Toni Morrison, with your love, admiration, respect, and awe, as not only a black literary pioneer and virtual sociological goddess, but a powerful woman who's left her indelible mark of genius on the minds, hearts, and emotions of millions across the globe of all colors.
I've not (yet) read all her works to date, but purchased and read her amazing novel, "Sula" in 1973, opening my sky blue eyes and soul to greater understandings of what blind racial prejudice is, and which your tribute to her here has inspired me to take it down off the shelf for a new read … then, onward to "Song of Solomon," if you've no better recommendation(s) for me to follow.
With spot-on English grammar, you've engaged and blessed us.

Well, dear author, lest I wear my welcome thin I'll close with an accolade of how highly I admire your own literary prowess with a pen, offering my sincere gratitude for sharing You with Us! ⁓ Richard🖌

PS: Please, Titilayo, accept this invitation for a visit … I would very much enjoy that.

Okay,

Alright,

I'm ready now. I'm trying to show you how much this paused me. When I realized that you were writing about Toni Morrison. I knew the name, but for some reason I kept thinking that she was a singer. When seeing the mere Toni, I thought of the song "Anniversary". But I suppose I was also thinking of Toni Braxton. ANYWAY, I'm super glad I found this tribute. I haven't read her books. I'd take it she writes for women? But I did learn of what type of writer she is to you and again, I have heard of her before. There was a man talking about open lines to books and he read the one from Paradise. This all started when I looked up Macon Dead Jr. tyfs this is a very nice tribute to her. I'm sure she would have loved it.
