The Best I Could

The Best I Could

A Poem by Brad

“I did the best I could”

An arrogant lie, more like

I did the best I wanted to

Memories haunting, enveloping

Smothering

God grant me do-overs

They can’t be changed

Learn and move forward!

Is no comfort but despair

What have I missed?

What have I lost?

Past is present mocking,

Crushing

What might have been?

Years and days and moments

That will never come again

No forgiveness, only pain

I think every truly decent human being on this planet is their own worst critic. We work daily on improving our natures never to attain perfection. So my advice is don't be so hard on yourself, forgiveness begins with self and understanding that we are all frail and fractured; whether hiding in the shadows or whistling in the dark. I don't mean we should quit trying. Oh, far from it. I just mean we shouldn't have unrealistic expectations of the imperfect nature in ourselves or others. I enjoyed the read.

Beautiful poem. . Loves it, each line tells the limits of a man to do something in this world. Good work 👍
