Skipping Stones

Skipping Stones

A Poem by Brad
"

This was a metaphor for the difference in outward appearances and internal conflict I felt when I started to try to work though my mental health issues. No one knows what is inside.

"

A shimmering surface

Beauty reflected, moon and stars

The glory of the dawn

Yet, the light is not its own

Who can tell what the depths conceal

Or whither go the skipping stones

Tension sustaining

Until at last they sink beneath.

That's a nice image and thought. Sometimes it's the little mundane things that last the longest in our minds. I remember riding my bicycle down my grandparents street. It was uneventful, but yet, I often think about it.

And yes, I too have skimmed those rocks. :)

I like the depth of this considering when we skimmed stones, they simply skimmed the surface. Much like reading a poem. At first we skim it for some kind of feeling...and then we dive deeper into it to grasp some meaning.

I'm the kind whose skipping stones are more like sinking stones so I am pretty sure my stones know what lies beneath. It's cold, dark and dank and no light penetrates that depth. Some nice description.

Only the skipping stones knows for sure. This is a great pastoral piece with moon and stars and the coming dawn by a lake skimming stones across the surface. Enchanting.

Thank you! This was the first poem I ever wrote, and it is still my personal favorite.

I'm always pleased to meet another nature lover. The observations tell me you are.
