The CraneA Poem by B. E. AshleyFree Style
The Crane
With early morn I set out along the winding road,
a dry trail I'd walked before.
The dust curled among the pines.
Tangled weeds edged this road,
decorating the ground with nature's twine.
I carried with me a few belongings;
my journal for remembering nature, a blanket and an evening meal.
The sun beamed its warmth upon me.
Towards the dusk of the day
I rested by on old pond.
Lotus blossoms speckled the mossy
grounds with color.
Reaching into my sack for pen
and journal, I began to write.
Thoughts drifted,
like the lily pads with the breeze.
My mind slept, dreams filled space,
time no longer mattered.
Suddenly, I was awakened.
The Crane called to his mate,
together they flew towards the crimson sun.
Standing, I thought I was lonely.
For a moment I was lonely.
A memory of long ago,
an unmeasured heartbeat,
I continued my journey.
