Bring Forth the Light

Bring Forth the Light

A Poem by Brad Dehler
"

From the book Dose (2016)

"
Do not tremble in the dark
For that which lurks
In the dark
Trembles in the light
Bring forth the light

Darkness can be comforting or frightening depending on whether we loathe or embrace it. I love the night and the silence when I can write without interruption or guilt from being taken away from things "important". But then, my mother said since my birth I've had my days and nights "mixed up". Don't get me wrong, I do not begrudge others their hours in the sun or their busy days filled with people and places. But I'm just an old curmudgeon of the night seeking refuge in familiar shadows. Your poetry never fails to delight, Brad. I think you're one of the finest poets on this site.

Good morning Brad,
All of us has the ability to bring out the light…
But many enjoy wallowing in their darkness.
I really enjoyed your words. They are definitely food for thought.

Hi brad,
That is I believe always the hope of a writer.
Lisa, cold and rainy here
My initial reaction: Amen! These lines feel so Biblical!
Then, I had a moment of synchronicity as I just had read Coyote's "Hanging with Dorian Gray and some poetry/quotes" in which he also talkes about the darkness inside of us.
Poetry is one of the paths toward what we call "The Truth."
I admire the terse, epigrammatical denseness of these lines.

You wrote everything necessary. In the darkness. We can create ghosts and monsters. Then we believe. There is no monsters in the daylight. I believe more monsters in the daylight Brad. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thank you Chris.
Light is needed so truly. All that lurks in the dark fears it. The light would resolve so much of what is plaguing the world today. A powerful message in a few choice words.
