Bring Forth the Light

Bring Forth the Light

A Poem by Brad Dehler
"

From the book Dose (2016)

"
Do not tremble in the dark
For that which lurks
In the dark
Trembles in the light
Bring forth the light

Darkness can be comforting or frightening depending on whether we loathe or embrace it. I love the night and the silence when I can write without interruption or guilt from being taken away from things "important". But then, my mother said since my birth I've had my days and nights "mixed up". Don't get me wrong, I do not begrudge others their hours in the sun or their busy days filled with people and places. But I'm just an old curmudgeon of the night seeking refuge in familiar shadows. Your poetry never fails to delight, Brad. I think you're one of the finest poets on this site.

Thank you!
I really like this. The light sends the shadows fleeing. "Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart." Psalm 97:11 There is joy where there is truth and truth is revealed by the light.

I love your poem, so optimistic, going from the dark to the healing light. So much packed in this short poem!

It warms my heart to see that you love this poem. Thank you thank you!
Great poem, beautifully concise.
One nit to pick have I- you could lose the first word in the second line. The “For” as used there is archaic and unnecessary, imho.

Paraphrased from Genesis 1: "And, in the beginning the earth was without form, and void; and, darkness was upon the face of the deep; and, God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light."

Well, Brad,
You can easily tell my propensity to pontificate has already exceeded your succinctly deep verse.
I've found that what hides in the dark is scared of what light reveals … which your words have already so concisely and brilliantly spoken.

Love a poem that imparts so much in so little space.

I gravitate to shorter pieces like this. Brevity is quite a forte to have. Well done, Brad!

Thank you very much. Yes the grand majority of my writing is concise, dense and brief

Perhaps Shakespeare said it best. "Brevity is the soul of wit". Remember that!

Duly noted :)
Again simple but powerful. The light is needed in this world of increasing darkness.

No trembling! Right, now that is set in stone the light shall illuminate this darkness that causes so much trembling!

Let it be so! Thank you mr Frederick Kesner
Excellent use of the small amount of words used. Really inspiring, and I enjoyed this poem very much. Shows that there is more than one side, the dark is not any stronger than the light; they fear each other
