"Chocolate French Braid"A Poem by Dmi
stood near the taxi lane hailing a cab, when she whistled taking the next one away,
looked to see who, would be brazen enough, saw high heels rocking a chocolate french braid, tried un twisting my tongue, to say we should share one, as the door got slammed in my face, she rolled down the window, flicking her cigarette out and said not tonight, so sorry I'm late, cab sped off, before I could say bye, when over my shoulder, saw these posters of her famous, performing that night, her latest platinum album, theater lights lit the streets up with her name, so started reading headlines, and newspaper clippings, followed her tour across the U.S.A, thinking over coffee, when days started to get boring, I'd see her show when she came back one day, then the newspaper boy, hit the screen door one morning, with headlines that ruined those dreams, the front page read, beautiful star passes on, after her birthday young like the others at 27, now when getting a cab, I whistle like she did, and that day she took mine from under me, but I always look back, just wishing once more, I'd see her high heels and chocolate hair, rocking a sexy french braid. © 2016 Dmi |
