Prison eyes

Prison eyes

A Chapter by J.howard87

Today I saw prison,
but it wasn't in the way that the sun peered through the clouds, reflecting against the gentle snowfall,
It wasn't in the way the snowflakes seemingly lost way to the iris of my eye.
Nor was it in the way the ice on the rooftop created an iridescent painting against the sun.
No,
I saw it in the eyes of the people,
                             their sorrow, desolate, contemptuous
                             eyes,
yes, today I saw prison.
                             but,
                                   yesterday was different.
I imagined the cold as it was
I found warmth withheld, and grudged,
yet I found It still
Tight lipped and unfulfilled.
It rose to me to show it's face,
sculpted, surrounded by broken shapes.
Today I saw prison
I thought that I was lost
                             until I realized my thoughts.
My own minds eye had built these walls,
the prison wasn't there at all.
