Gunology (Original Version)

Gunology (Original Version)

A Poem by B-poet

Guns are killing Tools

Which are only

Used as toys

To initiate living rules

Influencing the destruction of mankind

Yet in the debate over self defense

They reign supreme

Bursting every persons dreams

Literally with the ease

Not so far behind

A fine line between

Distinguishing a prevalent deference

In contrast to ambivalence

Backed by paranoia

For one's safety

They're not so hard to find

In terms of the nightly skies

They're definitely justifiable

During that particular time

Yet all guns have

No eyes or a conscience

Only a hair trigger

When used for safety discretionary measures

Within the presence of a probable

Proposed or self imposed

Dangerous foe

Within a treacherous story

Now unfolding to test

Our significance towards deciphering

The santicty of our wellbeing & fruitful minds

Will have to weigh out

A heavy burden unfamiliar to most of us all

Who've been left to grieve & bear with

The forever staring

Silent face of regretfulness

Of life now gone

In the blink of an eye

this reminds me of a very odd and interesting song "consequence of sound" by regina spektor...i think you would enjoy it. the lyrics are intriguing! i really like the flow of this one, it seemed like it almost had a beat going to it. i personally don't support gun rights, but my mind is completely open as this is not a subject that i'm knowledgeable on. this piece was very interesting to me

I'm from Texas, I'm no longer living there of course... but I'm on the fence about guns...
Like Rogue said, "it's an innate fear, like in the movie, Red Dawn"... the reality of needing to protect yourself is engrained in my DNA... a Thought provoking write, Bpoet!

Well... You live in the mid-west and I have family there... You know the mindset. "God, guns, 'merica"
I live in the West now and the mindset here: "If it moves, shoot it. And make sure you have a pickup truck with a rack to hold 'em all."
It is a right (whether outdated now or not) that certain parts of this country and people hold dear. It is part of their heritage. They will never give them up. Not willingly anyway. I think for many it is an innate fear of that "Red Dawn" scenario coming to pass and they refuse to be defenseless an unable to form a resistance. You know... Preparing for the eventual "worst case" possibility.

Strong message in this one and very well constructed. :)

Yet all guns have
No eyes or a conscience

That is the best message here - it is the gun, in the hands of a person - and that person can see the life they are taking, and feel for that life... we hope. Thoughtful piece, BP.

you have been quite prolific of late. a gun is a tool which allows us to be less human and more powerful than we actually are...i have owned handguns and shotguns and rifles alike....never did i fire a shot at another human being in anger....(there was the nam, but that is war) we aren't old enough (as a species) to have this much power, bottom line....well penned.
