Choosing Not To Exist

Choosing Not To Exist

A Poem by B-poet

If you could convince the world

That you didn't exist

How would you go about it

Living with an alias

Is a unbounded way

For becoming invisible

To the naked eye

Just like tuning out
The nuisances in life

Along your pathway to reconcile

With everyone you knew

For taking a break from the shoes

You had to walk in

Fulfilling endless comments

Initiating this disappearing process

Leaves behind no footprints

Along a trail no one ever heard of

Or paid much attention to

The burdened social weight you had to carry

This question varies from person to person

Would faking your own death be necessary

If you had a chance for Choosing Not To Exist

Within a unpredictable world of happenstance occurrences

This is a great piece, and it certainly made me think for a little while...the notion of disappearing in the world is a seductive one for sure, though an alias requires a lot of discipline, and its burden can be just as heavy as the alternative...it's a small world after all...great piece :)

Nice poem.
I like the concept of disappearance...fake death... using alias... all about escape. Sometimes we have to hide something from ourselves....or we hide and escape from the present world where things seems unfair for that moment. It's just a break. Everybody needs it. So, when someone wishes it, it is his right to keep in silence, and that we should respect.
This is great. Keep writing.

We all want to escape from the demands of life at one time or another. However, we ALWAYS have a choice, nothing is by happenstance occurrence in how we lead our lives. Things may happen to us: car accident, injury, cancer, illness, death, etc. but it is in how we choose to act within the framework of life that sets our fate. Not happy? Each of us, individually decides if we're going to be happy, no one else can steal your happiness unless you let them. No event or tragedy can steal your spirit unless you let it.
..."The shoes you had to walk in" again - everything is a choice. Sucky marriage, end it. Don't whine about it, or make it an excuse for bad behavior. All a choice. (Hmmm - yes, a subject that irks me if you can't tell) there isn't one person I've met that has had a normal life. Everyone has sorrow and tragedy... How we handle it is up to the individual. Ok... Off my soap box now.
I said before... A good write if it gets me to write a thoughtful (and long) review :)

How many times does a person wish they could just run away and leave it all behind? Start somewhere new where no-one knows them. I know there are people who do this.. Just go out for a pack of cigarettes and never come back. As technology advances this becomes harder to do, with a camera on every corner anymore. Then there's the thought that no matter how far you run, the past will eventually catch up with you.
Something to ponder..

Another great piece. :)

the message in this poem is brilliant! Its so weird to think of the world without oneself in it...anyways, this is wonderfully word and brilliantly crafted. Quite beautiful, if you ask me. Well done!

That's an intriguing question...one in which I ponder on often (believe it or not, it's true)... you have written a thought whispered in the caverns of my mind... Well penned!
