Checkmated Adversity

Checkmated Adversity

A Poem by B-poet

My Knight

Has chosen to fight

In regards to my dreams

The suffering it takes

To materialize them

Raises the stakes

As my Bishop infiltrates

King Adversities Pawn gates.

Yet what awaited me was his Queen

Who always offers a challenging defense

To my conquering schemes

Sending up my trap

For a perpetual ending

A check was orchestrated by

My Rook to King Adversity

Followed by the capturing of his Queen

By my Pawn adding pressure

For a more profound ending

The final act was set for viewing

A checkmate

With my Queen cornering the King’s throne

While my Rook and Pawn seized King Adversity.

My dreams have now been fulfilled

By defeating a formidable adversary

I chose to condone by contrary

Very clever piece... love the chest metaphors... puts a fire in this that brings the subjects to life... great job !!

Pretty cool poem...I'm surprised more writers don't mine the chess motif, maybe cuz they're afraid it will limit their audience, but it does leave the door open for those willing to do so, and the very nature of the game itself opens the door for interpretation whether one is familiar with the game or not...I'm not sure a lot of people realize that. Again, I thought this was a cool piece^^
