I finished unloading the movers truck. I decided to go to Thomas's
house and eat dinner with them. I knocked on his door and Thomas opened
it.
"Hey Mark! So good of you to join us!" Thomas told me. "Jeff will be here shortly, he's bringing the steak." Thomas said.
"It's not something he killed is it?" I asked jokingly.
"It's what he does. He believes it's better than eating store bought meat." Thomas said. I nodded.
I walked inside the living room and sat down looking at the two kids play with their toys.
"Ah this is my daughter Sally, and that's my son Kevin. They're both 8 so that makes them twins." Thomas told me.
"It's mine! Get your own!" Kevin said to Sally taking the action figure from her.
"Oh yeah?!" Well ladies first!" Sally said taking it back.
Kevin tapped her arm with his finger.
"Dad! He hit me!" Sally said sticking her tongue out at Kevin.
"I didn't hit her! I poked her! Tattle tale!" Kevin said sticking his tongue out back at her.
"Now kids don't fight." Thomas told them as they nodded. Jeff knocked on the door. Thomas answered it.
"Hey there pardner! I brought the steak!" Jeff said. "Fresh and ready to eat!" He told Thomas.
I looked at Jeff. "Raw?" I asked him.
Jeff couldn't help but let out a hearty laugh. "I like you Mark! No not
raw, the Missus and I cooked it ourselves. Mark meet my wife Darlene!"
Jeff said as a dark haired woman walked inside, she looked like she was
in her 50's.
"Howdy ya'll!" Darlene told everyone smiling.
"We've been married for 20 years, we lived here for our entire lives.
Met at Big Rock High School, we courted for a few years while in high
school, and once we graduated we waited till she was 30, after that we
tied the knot and got married." Jeff said. "I'm starvin! You fellas
hungry?" He asked.
Thomas nodded. "Let's eat!" He said. They
all set up the table with plates, bowls, silverware, and napkins. "Hey
Jeff would you like to do the honors?" Thomas asked him.
"Oh
you betcha! I love my lord and savior Jesus Christ!" Jeff said. He began
to pray. "Dear heavenly father, we thank you for this meal, please let
that poor creature rest in peace and let it run in an endless paradise
with other animals and be free to have lotsa' food for them and lotsa'
grass for them. We thank you for bringing Mark into our lives lord, he
is a joy for this town. Please help him find his way to what he's
lookin' for. Amen lord!" Jeff said.
"Amen!" Everyone said.
