Reminders

A Poem by Ayamey
"

Poem I wrote for my soulmate when we were separated.

"
There's something about the winter time
that reminds me of you
the smell of the cold air
your sweet perfume
the bright lights in the street
they light up the dark
but right now
they can't even light up my heart.
That tune rings in my head
that reminds me of you
of the struggle to let go
and that friday night view.
How you asked my permission
to give me a kiss
It was your first one
and those sweet minty lips.
There's something about places
how they never change
no matter the time
the memories remain.
The songs that played
and the memories made
I was different back then
but now I have changed.
There's something about friday nights
when you're young with big dreams
the distortion from reality
I clung to what you told me.
How happy and innocent
I lived open-minded
yet now I'm so different
everyday I'm reminded.
There's something about winter time
that brings me back to you
and no amount of passing time
can erase you from my view.
The cold air stings me with sweet pain
and the lights they burn inside me
now every year will be the same
this season will remind me.
