Dad, I married a heroA Poem by Avia
My father was a soldier, he was the bravest man I knew
He was tall and strong, but sweet and kind too I remember when I was a young girl, maybe four or five or six How I would throw a tantrum, whenever he had to leave "Your dad is a Hero baby, he's protecting us from bad guys." My mother's words were comforting, they dried the tears in my eyes "My dad is a hero" I would tell everyone I knew Even though I missed him, I was proud of him too One day, I fell in love with an amazing, loving man He was tall and strong and sweet, he reminded me of my dad He never wore camouflage, or dog tags or combat boots But with his white coat and stethoscope, he was saving lives too Then a pandemic ripped through the world, devastating everyone And suddenly, my sweet, loving husband, was at the frontline of a war Now a scene from my past plays out before my eyes My little baby boy holds on to his father and cries "Your dad is a hero baby, he's protecting the world from bad guys" But as I hug my son tightly and we wave our love goodbye I look up at the big blue sky and hope my father hears me "Dad, I married a hero. Please keep him safe for me." © 2020 AviaFeatured Review
