I should be asleep, but my eyes are wide open
Searching through the world, looking for my place, seeing where I fit.
Going through the thoughts of the day, what I did wrong, what I gave up.
Perusing through the book of fears in my mind. "yeah, that's still there"
Wondering if I have made any progress, or maybe I'm circling myself.
Waiting for a sign or maybe a reason, something, just something.
I should be asleep, but I'm sighing on my bed.
Wondering what's wrong with me and slowly drifting into the night.

Worry not about the past, since it already happened and can't be changed. Worry not about tommorrow too since it's completely unpredictable...Take deep breaths...Chill :)
Try reading a book, or do something that bores you...I'm sure you'll fall asleep soon😊( if you really want to😜😀)

my best stuff is written just before sleep or at 3.00 am

I used to have insomnia but now I can't sleep enough. It's what I call catching up on the hours I lost for having insomnia, still not sure which is better. Anyways, love the work, as seen above it brings back feelings of nostalgia and the way you've portrayed your emotions in it is pretty intriguing.
Although personally I did have to train myself to depend on certain genres of music in order to sleep, wake-up, work, etc. So that helps me a lot if you want to try that. Like play music that relaxes you and lay down, shouldn't take more than an hour at most the first couple times you do that.

A universal theme, well executed. Everybody does this occasionally; what else are you going to do on a sleepless night? I usually give up trying to sleep and write songs or poems instead!
You have captured the essence of this very well. Everybody can identify with it and sympathize. Keep up the good work - and try to get some sleep! :)
