A Poem by AvalonDrowning

I wish I could put you under,

And let you feel what this is like.

What makes it thrive and rise and prosper

And simmer beneath translucent skies

Vision skewed, and understanding

I think you’ll start to wonder

Where it was that you went wrong and

why there’s no way to fix what you’ve done.

Smother the truth like it’s not screaming

Ignore its pleas because we’re not hearing

Your poison lips spread lies for miles

And our battered ears will take them in.

Your venom stings the skin so sweet,

and digs, and digs to reach the heart,

your promises are a deathly tonic, but then,

there’s no water in your sad paradise.

There’s no questions to these answers.

No voices to quiet all the commotion.

And there’s no getting to the end

When you can’t find the starting line.

There used to be stars in some of our eyes,

And sure, we dreamed of better tomorrows,

But your hand puts a veil over our sun,

And blots out those stars, softly, one by one.

My body is heavy now with the weight of this death

Bearing down on my shoulders so frail

Used to be a dancer, a laugher,

But now the sound of war drums beating

Is the only lullaby I’ll ever hear.
