Where Do I Belong?

Where Do I Belong?

A Poem by Mira Windsor
"

Where Do I Belong conveys the concept of the importance and how cultural identity can impact ones self image. with personal experience of being a third culture kid, this has been my experience.

"

The smell of meat pies, sausage rolls and fairy bread fills my heart

But hotpots, yum cha, and the qipao fills my soul,

Where do I belong?

Too foreign for either,

 too white, and too Asian,

Snarky comments about my race,

‘Where do you really come from

I’m Australian, I'm Australian, it is no lie,

With the blood of China, but the spirit of another,

Speaking the tongue of both,

Discriminated by both,

Unsure of my culture,

I do not know where I belong.

Oh wow. If only the world could be more accepting, we are all people, our differences makes us unique, but it can also be the target for others hate. You may be Asian, you may be white, you may be both but that doesn't make you any less Asian or white. You are a human with different cultural identities, it was two peoples love that brought you into this world, a unique individual and shame to those who discriminate because hey don't see your true uniqueness yet, blinded they are by their hatred.
