penny for your thoughts

penny for your thoughts

A Poem by Authoress
"

lyssa.

"
penny for your thoughts?
and you don't say anything
but i can still hear
your throat clench and unclench
and you still shake
just enough beside me that
your eyes, looking
towards the ceiling but not
at anything, water almost
like you care about what
you're not saying.
dime for your thoughts?
wait, s**t, i forgot nickels.
nickel for your thoughts?
a breath this time, not
particularly slow but somewhat
unsteady. there's a noise in the
back of your throat
that sounds like crying but
it's gone a moment after
it sounds, and i'm not sure if
it was real.
dime for your thoughts?
nothing.
quarter for your thoughts?
...
i'll give you all i have.
how are you so good
at unsaying things
that haven't
even been
said?

wow this is deep and hauntingly worded...

there used to be a game show on tv years ago...and the game show host would always introduce it by expressing "it's not what you say that counts, it's what you don't say"

silence can be deafening...and some are really good at being mum. Others might need to be more often.
