Depression.

I'm a little sick right now
But I want you to know
My throat is closing down
And I don't want you to go

I've been infected, somehow, dear
I don't think my veins are working
I've been inflicted on you, dear
I would pray if I thought it was worth it

Do you want a caricature
Or a character captured?
Either way, you'll only know how to love in text.

Please, I know I'm ill

We can last until
I'm at zero degrees
Buckling my knees
If you thought that I was ice, I invite you to watch me freeze

We've read the ending
Mourned our losses
Cursed the author
Burned out crosses
I don't know if this will kill me
But I know it's real damn close
So just this one last time
Let's make a toast:

To useless pills

(I know I'm ill)

Please, I know I'm ill

We can last until

I've killed the cards dealt
Watched my bruises welt
If you thought that I was fire, I invite you to watch me melt

third stanza is really amazing to me.

the whole poem is...the use of the physical ailments to describe the mental and emotional state of depression...

and almost that denial aspect...
"I'm a little sick now"
like, just a little, but the speaker knows it is much more than that.
