Drive AwayA Poem by AuthoressWe've got nothing left to our name But an air mattress and maybe loose change For the man with the curls who can't figure out How it is he can fly without leaving the ground Nothing could catch up to us I can promise, but I can't persuade I like the lack of silence when nobody speaks up I can promise, but I can't explain Drive away Blankets, pillows, seats folded down Radio static and learning to shout For the grown-up girl who's never been young With exhaust and scenery settled in her lungs Nothing could catch up to us I can promise, but I can't persuade I like the lack of silence when nobody speaks up I can promise, but I can't explain Drive away Neon paints the skyscrapers But trees point to the stars Mountains rise above the clouds And we live in a car. Deserts stretch out on and on like a cat waking in a patch of sun; Lakes will shine or dim with skies and we sing along into french fries A roadtrip to a nameless place, Drive away Nothing could catch up to us I can promise, but I can't persuade I like the easy silence when both of us speak up I can promise, but I can't explain Drive away. © 2014 AuthoressReviews
