Cat Daddy {A Short Story Poem}

Cat Daddy {A Short Story Poem}

A Poem by The Cunning Linguist
"

Leo Curtis gets reincarnated into his family's cat.

"
Leo Curtis knew that he had messed up big this time,
and that this one mistake was gonna end his gig in crime,
'cause here he was tied up while gagged and kneeling by a pit,
the four-four by his dome would surely kill him rightly quick.

"It has to be this way" the hitman said and cocked the strap,
"you've borrowed thousands from the Don that he will not get back,
so much so killing you won't be enough; the life you give,
is nothing so we're also gonna kill your wife and kids."

And that's when Leo started crying; urgent and complete,
he knew about the Don's bad rep to murder families,
if only he could send a warning; get it to 'em right,
the hitman pulled the trigger sending him into the light....

3 weeks later....

Leo felt his mouth was very dry like desert storms,
he also felt the temperature was dry and very warm,
the last thing he remembered was the hitman or the pit,
"I'm still alive" he thought; "I'm gonna kill them all for this!"

He tried to stand but felt so strange; his body felt more loose,
and limber as if all his muscle mass expelled more juice,
than blood; that's when he noticed that his sight was out of wack,
his vision was so perfect but the light was out; pitch black.

He looked around and Leo knew that he was in it too,
"This can't be happening" he thought; "I'm in my living room",
the mirror stood before him and his mind went spinning flat,
'cause looking back at him was Whispers; Whispers was a cat!

The family cat to be exact then Leo smelled a smell,
it messed him up a little bit that he could smell so well,
the front door busted open; voices rang out crystal clear,
the loud and vibrant speakings of his two sons Chris and Meer.

Though two short years apart the Curtis boys were thick as thieves,
as thick as grits and beans; how J-Lo looks in fitted jeans,
"You boys should keep it down" a woman's voice said very grim,
and Leo knew by sound and smell his sweet wife Mary-Lynn.

He heard Meer's voice ask wistfully "When's Daddy coming home?"
Then young Chris answered angrily "He's not, our daddy's gone,
and never coming back 'cause Mommy told Aunt Sue last night,
that Daddy's on a one way trip; he's s**t to choose that life!"........"CHRIS!

Watch your mouth!" Mare hollered out and Leo felt so sad,
he'd chose the life he lived; it left his kids without a dad,
his wife without a husband 'cause the fast life squeezed him out,
as Leo screamed "I love you all" what came out was "MEOW!"

"Aw Whispers" Mary said and rubbed his furry little head,
the children yelled "Good night Mommy!" and scurried to their beds,
then Mary picked up Whispers and sat down upon the couch,
while stroking on him gently she dozed off; was gone and out.

2 hours later....

Everyone was sleeping and the house was oh so still,
that's why the subtle noise was very loud and oh so real,
it snatched Leo from sleeping and the smell just didn't lie,
the hitman was nearby; the one who's gun pushed him to die.

As Leo looked he saw his wife still sleeping on the couch,
inside his head he yelled "WAKE UP!" but what was said? "MEOW!"
Then Mary stirred like "Whispers please shut up I'm tryna sleep,"
but Leo wasn't tryna see his family find the heat.

So off the couch he jumped and moved towards the hitman's scent,
which came from out the closet; Leo crawled against that vent,
and watched the hitman come out, raise his gun to bust a slug,
and that's when Leo pounced while scratching; rushed him to the rug.

The hitman dropped his gun and let out screams from top of lungs,
as Leo's claws kept ripping skin and didn't stop the fun,
he clawed the hitman's face with angry force as needed be,
when Mary hit the lights there was no question; he's deceased.

3 months later....

Leo grew accustomed to his role as Whispers cat,
he'd saved his family's life and though he couldn't get his back,
he cherished being 'round them but there also lingered pain,
so on this day he sat and watched his two sons finger paint,

with Mary down beside them getting messy just for kicks,
he walked over to them and they all stopped like "What is this?"
His paint smeared paw wrote on the paper spelling L-E-O,
with mouths agape they looked while Mary called out "Heavens no!"

The whole fam stared at Whispers quite bewildered just like that,
then Meer said "Look at Whispers' eyes; they're light green just like Dad's!"
A short "meow" came out then Leo hurried off to do,
some sleeping while believing loved ones can come back; do you?

Author's Note

The Cunning Linguist
I'm self admittedly fascinated with the topic of death, specifically what happens when we die. This effort came forth after a particularly rousing conversation with a friend of mine about reincarnation.
