That place we call home

That place we call home

A Poem by Jordan Smith
"

This poem is dedicated to the new family of friends that I made while I was at Line Camp for college.

"
Four days,
four days of
no connection to
the outside world.

Four days with
nothing but conversations
and dating rumors
to pass the time.

Four days of
independence and
one of literal
Independence.

We saw the beginning,
we explored the creation.
We became one with the origins
of our new forever home.

We put those
jerseys and caps on and
we ate some
"Milk and Cookies".

We sang,
we danced.
We ate some Ice Cream
and we danced some more.

We fountain hopped,
We mountain topped.
Our mountain was getting
here to this moment.

Whether by blood line
or by God's grace,
we are all bound
to this one place

Now and forever
bound by
"That Good Old Baylor Line"

We walked in
as strangers,
We walked out
as family.

No one, nor
nothing will ever be
able to take that
away from us all.

As we all sit here,
less than two weeks
from move-in day,
two things are for certain.

We miss one another dearly,
and we absolutely miss our home.
They say that
"Home is where the heart is".

We all left our hearts
back at camp,
back at Earle Hall,
back at home.

That place we call home is where
our hearts are and will forever be.
That place we call home is
Baylor University.

I appreciate the way you have described so well about home.. "home is where the heart is..." sounds really great... Everyone has to stay like this, one way or the other, this really hurts to be away from home, away from heart... keep writing..

I like how the repetition in each stanza works- makes it very dramatic and allows you to see the point. Beautiful piece

The entire poem is so delighting. Especially the line "Home is where the heart is" is heart touching...could feel the base of the poem. Wonderful piece !!!

I love this piece, its simple in this phasing, but that show the slow beauty of a late summer trip. I found myself picturing this. I really appreciate the picture it calls the reader to paint as the words color in the blanks. awesome!

This is so nostalgic! It made me remember dorming, and camping as a kid! I really love how simple yet deep this is. Well done, my friend!

Camping really does bring out the liveliness in people. Especially now, when the idea of climbing a tree is the very last thing on our minds. But then when camping with some friends, you want to see if you can get to the very top. The adventurer comes out in all of us, and we experience a feeling of freedom. With friends, that just makes everyone closer. Well done, I was really feeling this piece :)

I liked how this poem was about your own personal experience. I feel like so many are based off of something the author can't even begin to comprehend and it comes off feeling fake, but this one was real.
