The Underdog will Rise

The Underdog will Rise

A Poem by Jordan Smith
"

For all of those who fight no matter the odds stacked against you. *Also, this was just published in the 2016 Edition of the Lone Star College Tomball Creative Arts Magazine Volume 26.*

"
There's that moment in life,
everyone has it.
That moment when the
odds are stacked against you,
the doubters louder than ever
and no end to the naysayers.
You start to wonder if they are right,
if you really have no shot.
But then, you remember something.
You have something that no doubter has.
Heart, drive, motivation.
You have more than anyone and
Nothing is going to get in your
way of achieving your dreams and
aspirations, no matter the odds.
This time you look in the face
of doubt and failure and say,
"Screw you! This time it's mine."
You charge on, beat the doubt,
celebrate you accomplishment.
But then, the cycle starts over again.
Eventually, you get into a habit of
Always being the Underdog.
You don't try to, it just happens.
Sometime, Someday, Somehow
that will change and the
doubters and naysayers
will be gone for good.
Sometime, Someday, Somehow,
The Underdog will rise to seize the day.

I really liked this piece, Jordan. I liked the fighter's spirit so evident in the poem. Ordinarily, I'm not much of a fan of poetry although I've written a few, but I do enjoy any piece of writing that no matter how dark will give the reader the impression that right and spirit will prevail, in our lives and in our work. Well done. cf

Great message. It was pretty easy to read. I like how you tell the specifics and not just a vague notion that things will get better.

It is structured differently than conventional poetry, but surprisingly easy to read. The subject is easy to relate to. It is powerful. i found that reading it out loud made me feel it more. Great job!

Being an underdog is just a state of mind. The moment I start to believe in myself, will be the redefining moment of my life and I will no longer be an underdog. That was incredible piece of work. Thanks for sharing.

Thank You :)
As an artist, I am faced with the criticism that I will never make it into the design world. But many great works come from passion and determination. Such a relatable and inspiring piece!
