The Things They Say About You

The Things They Say About You

A Poem by Author Gus
"

Read this in a half sarcastic almost Dr. Sues kind of tone.

"

Hello, goodbye, you are an idiot

You are a genius, go away

Stay I love you and f**k you too

So, what does all of this have in common?

All are things that have been said to you

Good or bad, these are not all true

So just take the best and ignore the rest

Because you are what you will to be

Regardless of me; you are you

Go slow or run fast, take life at a glance

Find yourself a beautiful romance

Or skip out on the next slow dance

Blow the wind towards your own path and prance.

Steal your soul and raise up a knight’s lance

Your life should be in your own hands.

It rhymes, it has a 10-9-8 count in each stanza, and I don't write poetry very often. Hit me with some reviews, I like constructive input!

The title struck me first. People are very conscious of the voices talking about them, describing them. And the curiosity engenders telling me, "Wanna listen what they are talking about you?"
I am not a critique but I read for pleasure and learning; and your poem was worth the both.
"So just take the best and ignore the rest
Because you are what you will to be"
Simple yet strong lines. I liked how it flowed smooth and lucid. And honestly, I have never before seen that rhyme pattern, so I was a bit surprised. Thanks for sharing it with us. Have a great day.

Your message is appreciated here. Regardless of how comfortable you feel with the structure of this poem, the message comes right across and clearly. One can control one’s own life, make things happen for themselves and change the direction of the wind. I like the sound of that a lot!

The title is a great one. The poem itself is straightforward with sustained direct personal appeal. My favourite line is "Regardless of me, you are you". I think that was brilliant as is the whole poem.
I like how you use contrasting ideas to bring out the theme of personal choices. Great message, great poem.

i wouldn't worry about if its technically sound. It flowed like a jazz trio drummer! content wise, although playful, it conjured the idea of indecisiveness brilliantly. very cool!

Always think it's not so much the rhyme. But what the poem is telling you. Fleetwood Mac. Go your own way. In the end, it all comes down to you.

never read anything around this pattern 10-9-8 as me oft. used to follow 10-9-10, abab, abca, aaba, aabb, and on & on, perhaps, i'm glad something new i get to read 'tis noon. find this poetry a great port of inspiration that has its own intellectual vibes of anew dawn of aspirations to young and so lost generation. some of my fav. lines're:

"Go slow or run fast, take life at a glance
Find yourself a beautiful romance..."

very well. kinda enjoyed reading this. looking forward to readin' your work, Gus.

The Celebration of Life? That's the gist of what I inferred from this poem. I actually think it's pretty good, but it might need a tad bit of work. Otherwise, good job.

Just any other form of art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder; thanks for the input!
