JewelsA Poem by Austin_TylerThe day I first saw her. <3
My boyish eyes had never seen anything like her before.
The universe could breathe because she was living. Electricity crackled behind her eyes. She struck me down with every glance she threw in my direction. I could not find any courage, despite how much I wanted to. I could not speak the words my heart pleaded to say that day. Everything that stood in her presence became illuminated; she'd worn this glow, like the daughter of the sun. Every word rolled off her tongue like riddles traced in gold. Watching her move was like getting to watch yourself dream. Like spying on the ocean, and finding a mermaid swimming in a moon pool. How had I gotten so lucky to watch an angel dance ever so close to me? It was as if all the galaxies orbited her, and gravity had never pulled this hard before. I never told my friends what I had seen that day. They would say I was sick, or insane, or a mix of the two. But she was not just a girl. I could see the rest of my life when I looked at her. She walked in the room just to push me over the edge, to keep me falling into a place where the ground just could not exist. For those few hours I got to be near her, I felt like I was sitting with 10,000 angels. The second she walked out, I knew. I knew that I wanted to chase her forever. Patience is a virtue, in which I normally would not have. But I did not mind being patient for her, because she told me I had to be. My whole life could be spent chasing her, and I would lay happily under the dirt. Because she would never be able to leave my mind. She never would be able to leave my heart. People travel the world to find treasures and jewels. How could mine have found me so effortlessly? My Juls is priceless. © 2017 Austin_Tyler |
