"Janis"A Poem by Kimberly EllisA poem about Janis JoplinRadiant candles fill the room already laid in darkness with the softest of soothing lights dancing gently; the spicy smell of incense burns and swirls bluesy musical notes fill the smoky spaces all around her swaying back and forth in a hypnotic trance; she moves with the strums of the guitars, the beats of the drums; she sings with the heart of a lion and the deep wounds of a lamb. You can see the pain in her face replaced with a smile of a romantic dreamer as she reaches her favorite part of the same old song she sings every night the smile spreads to deep infection that only she could spread; her dancing body is adorned with colorful feather boas and treasures of beads, gold and silver.
The crowd shakes and shimmies as the queen casts her charms upon them, leaving them breathless and begging.
A tormented woman with her own unique brew of spirit and soul, spit and vinegar; she grips the microphone for dearest life and gives this all to you willingly, perched atop the stage of her life; she will be still your rock and roll beating heart when she sings and wails and tells you to just "Break it.., just..break it! " "Have another little piece of my heart now baby.." a cheshire cat smile washing over her face as she belts it out again: "Cus you know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good.." © 2012 Kimberly Ellis |
