Chapter 5: Permission

I wasn't sure how to put this, how people start disappearing and the government problems. How does one confront these problems?

--Next Day: June 17th--

When I woke up early that morning, I felt an eerie sensation when I got off the couch that I wanted to linger around. I couldn’t find it, but at least I felt it though. It was like a gust of cold wind (at a hot time) which was refreshing. It was around 5:15 AM that I woke up, so I decided to look through the window. The window was crystal clear today. I couldn’t explain the joy that I had when it was because this time, I can see some details that I couldn’t see yesterday.

The next one to awaken from sleep was Lilianne. She asked me what time it was, so I responded, “6:00 AM.” She started preparing what we were to eat that morning. Our breakfast was a mixture of foods; I couldn’t make up a name for it.

Once we were about to leave for school, Kai woke up, so we bid goodbye for the day and proceeded to school through the usual route. I decided to tell Lilianne of the paper I saw yesterday, “I picked up this paper yesterday.”

“You did? Can you tell me of it?” She said silently.

“It says that there have been a series of disappearances within the town, including students. I thought that we were either lucky or we did not fall into someone’s trap.” I said with some thought.

“Right you got this weird ability to read somebody or to foretell what is going to happen in the nearby future?” Lilianne asked.

“Kind of, but I don’t get the feeling every time. I just feel it when… Hmmm… I feel it. I guess…” I said with the feeling of uncertainty.

We walked near to the board and saw another paper, I picked it up as usual and this time, packed it inside my bag. I thought that it would seem unfair to discuss the paper now because Kai wasn’t there with us.

As we approached school grounds, I looked at the building, “It seems older than it did yesterday.”

“If you think about it, yeah it does, but it doesn’t make much of a difference in learning; all the supplies are still there.” Lilianne put up.

We went to our respective classes and yet another day of nothing learned. This seemed to get less weird because I was getting used to it. I thought the best thing to do was to investigate some more. So we booked a meeting with our teacher.

“So teacher, can we investigate more on this case?” I started.

He was silent at first, but then spurted a few words, “W-what w-will ha-happen to y-your s-studies?”

“Don’t worry; we will try to find a way to get back the other students.” I said.

“R-really!? Then you have my permission for the investigation.” The teacher said.

“I didn’t think it would be that fast… I thought he’d decline whatever I’d say to him.” Lilianne said with a surprised look.

“I have a thought, after the meteorite crash, we barely got to have fun; except yesterday though. This Saturday, we should have a day of fun before it’s all too late.” I sprung randomly.

Lilianne agreed with me, she commented that too much work and too little fun will make the brain not work well on the day of the investigation. As we walked the usual route towards the hospital, we went across the board again. This time, there was another paper that piqued my interest. I discussed what it had to say with Lilianne and said, “It doesn’t fit in a regular reality doesn’t it?”

“The part were the person commented that the place was going to be blown up by a nuclear explosion was just way of the line. I wouldn’t think anybody would be that radical or dumb enough to do that to so many innocent lives.” This gave me a thought when Lilianne said this, so she continued, “Something wrong Auron?”

After saying that, we arrived at the doorstep of the hospital and went to the 9th floor. Once I landed my foot on the rug of Kai’s room, I sensed an unknown presence lurking around the room.

“Be alert! I sense an arrival!” I said out of nowhere.

We all looked around, “I see it… It’s a specter! Watch out!” Lilianne randomly said.

“I don’t see anything… Are you sure you’re not hallucinating or anything?” Kai commented.

“But it’s right there! Right beside you Kai! I can see it…” Lilianne thought for a second, “You don’t think that it’s… it’s… my power… do you? I mean… Auron… got this weird capability to be able to sense things… so… wouldn’t that mean this is… mine?”

“You may be on to something. I don’t think you’re entirely wrong, but I guess we can call this your power.” I said without hesitation, as if I knew what to say at a time like that, but to be honest, I didn’t.

We had to ignore the specter, for we had no means for communication with it. There was no way that it was tangible and when it did try to communicate, nothing would come out. It was like as if it was mute.

As we ignore the ‘specter’ I so called it, we ate dinner. Although the presence of it being there was bothering, to me, the presence could not be ignored, for it was too strong. We had a bit of fun before we slept, considering that we’d have to do another investigation some time soon.
