Premonition

Premonition

A Poem by Sherry

Somewhere, something is gonna go right,
In this place of hollowness and wide, empty spaces,
In this place of deserted roads under a dead sky.
A man that I hate strums on the guitar,
As we wander around in pointless circles,
The disquiet rising and ebbing,
And an old woman's tears
Could send you straight to hell,
Did you know that?
Cheap washing powder and blue wipers
Are not enough to keep the madness away.
I feel it in my bones, in my vibrating pores,
Something big and ugly and blinding is coming,
From far across the sea, from across the cloudy sky.

An end is coming, a beginning.
It flickers in the back of my mind,
And just out of grasp; it warns me to run.
She came and hugged me, looked in my eyes,
Not old and senile and messy.
How did she know? I needed it so.
And somewhere far away,
A man bangs his head against a wall
Over and over again, his voice cracks, his
Hands, big and strong, hold up the world.
I stand watching -
Should I worry about him, should I envy him,
Why does it matter so much? Will it just be another
Human farce, the angels spit at us,
Or will it be the one to watch out for?
Do you really care, or are you making fools of us?

Will we dissolve away, in our old age
In our own tears of mockery,
Or will we still be running in circles?
What would I give?
For it to mean something?
What wouldn't I give?
For something dark and ugly and blinding
To descend from this dead, blue sky,
And devour our very souls.
Somewhere, something will end up going right.
