Concrete Delusions

Concrete Delusions

A Poem by Mother Maggie

Author's Note

Mother Maggie
shadows fall like ghosts
here in this twilight realm
memories of songs—of laughter
echo from these concrete illusions

I, left with wonder, contemplate
in this mire of questions, unanswered

What of those who lived here…?
those who ate, slept, made love?
those who laughed, sang, dreamt?
…and what of those dreams?
those hopes—those plans—those schemes
built here…

Aftershocks—culture shocks
tremors pulverizing
obliterating societal foundations
leaving only echoes and dust

and I wonder…
what new thing
will scrawl itself
upon this blank slate?
