Author's Note

Mother Maggie
The old lady slumbers
warmed by the rays
streaming through the cobwebs
in the pane less portal

Half waking—nipping at flies
she dreams of rodeo clowns
of barrels, bulls and broncos
in her dreams—she is flying again
snatching colorful disks from thin air

she goes through all the old routines
her whole bag of tricks
stage deaths beyond compare
silly banter with the master
a handshake to seal the deal

she was the star—this grand old dame
her timing impeccable
her wit immeasurable
she was the show

actor, comedienne, dancer, athlete
brought to greatness
by her love and devotion
for one soul, one man, one traveler
my brother, artist, rancher, entertainer
first rate bullshitter
who loved this four-legged beauty
with equal devotion
