Disillusioned

Disillusioned

A Poem by Mother Maggie
"

This came to me as I was watched fireworks on July 4th a couple of years ago. I began to see mushroom clouds and land mines exploding instead of beautiful lights...seeing beyond the illusion

Author's Note

Mother Maggie
Bursting blossoms twinkling
lighting up the night sky-brighter than the stars
celebrating war and the memory of war
Fiery flowers raining petals
of flame down on the earth
representing instruments of destruction
turned into festive decorations to honor the destroyers.

Veterans day, memorial day, independence day
all holidays founded on war
nurtured on the blood of the innocent.

We are the wolf in sheep’s clothing
a nation of two faces
preaching peace and promising
justice, basic human rights and prosperity
while perpetrating atrocities
and leaving in the rubble
those to whom we have pledged assistance
when they refuse the shining path
the dream of religious right democratic fervor.

A nation of hypocrisy… I turn my back on the lie
the shining fable birthed by the founding fathers
