Ship of Fools

Ship of Fools

What can you say when you see the cliff coming and no one else does...?

Author's Note

Mother Maggie
The revelers spin round and round
the vessel, captain less, steams on
they dance, they laugh, they carouse
in their garish costumes
oblivious
to the one in scarlet
the uninvited
and the band plays on

Here in this ship
this ship of fools
never stop dancing
the party will never end
because in our blindness
our oblivion is our paradise
and the band plays on

The maw of the maelstrom
gapes wide
her fetid breath
to us, peaches in summertime
that scarlet specter stands
faceless bloody shadow
and the band plays on

Excellent. I've often thought of a runaway train, but this analogy is better. For all his "intelligence", mankind can't help but destroy himself. (I wish it wasn't true)

It helps to know that someone else sees it too...:)
