The Sunrise

The Sunrise

A Poem by Devashish Kumar

A hint of wine covers the horizon of
your cheeks like the magnificent
sky punctuated by sprinkles of red.

Speckles of golden sunshine
mingle with some wispy clouds
of hair tumbling about your face.

Your lips curve upwards and
corners of your brows bow down
with the piety of morning prayers.

Your eyes become aglow with fire-
an unquenchable flame to conquer
wilderness of the unknown world.

The muscles in corners of your mouth
finally come out of their secret abode
and announce their glorious arrival.

The lips part- only slightly; the sun
rises in all its glory and I bask in the
splendour of your spectacular smile.
