The Lost Spring

The Lost Spring

A Poem by Devashish Kumar

Fulfilling my father’s dreams,
I forgot to dream.

Wanting to be the first in everything,
I forgot to enjoy.

Building a house,
I forgot to make a home.

Reading about love,
I forgot how to love.

Meeting new people,
I forgot to make friends.

Wanting too much,
I forgot to offer.

Running to beat time,
I forgot to stay.

Waiting for her,
I forgot to live.

I love thisss!!! I'm gonna tell you what this poem about because you don't understand! Lol jk, but my interpretation is a boy so caught up in trying to fulfill duty and responsibility forgot how to be a kid!
Like a man is constantly surviving but never living!
My family is a business family, but I'm the third child, so I can totally relate to this! (Like I see it between my brother and sister, and they always don't think I'm right etc etc),
What really got me was :
Building a house, I forgot to make a home
And its so true. I feel like I can rant and rant about this so, I'm gonna stop while I'm ahead. Anyway, awesome piece of work!

What did you mean when you said, " ... because you don't understand!"

I was just joking around, (sometimes I forget my sarcasm doesn't reach through the screen)

This is so true. Often when we are compelled to fulfill other people's expectations we end up foregoing our own, sometimes even without realizing this. And since we are constantly racing against time and resources, this gives little room for leading a life that we can look back on with a sense of satisfaction.

I like this because it can mean a few things. An important spring to a working machine, or always missing a renewal and rebirth as Spring might represent. It's heartbreaking to read, but it's very touching in a way. It feels like a very humanizing experience, to live. And I think people forget that.
