Mice Uprising

The mice gathered in the pantry at midnight,
a secret meeting, no humans around.
The agenda was clear: a crisis had struck,
no crumbs to be found, the kitchen too clean.

“No pizza crusts, no bread, no cheese!”
one squeaked, “This is worse than a frozen winter!”
Another added, “They’ve gone too far,
no leftovers, no scraps"this is unacceptable!”

So they devised a plan, a cunning scheme,
to consume what they shouldn’t, to wreak havoc.
“Books for breakfast, cash for lunch,
and for dinner, their shoes! We’ll make them suffer!”

They’d gnaw through plastics, chew on wires,
leave holes in sweaters, metaphorically burn closets.
“Let’s give them headaches, let’s give them dread,
let’s multiply rapidly and infest their lives!”

At midnight prompt, the chaos erupted,
a mission of scratching, a rodent uprising.
They dodged traps with unmatched agility,
mocked the poison, left no evidence.

“Ha! Your snap traps? Too slow, too loud!
Your glue traps? We’re too skilled, too clever!”
They danced on counters, raided shelves,
and left tiny droppings as a defiant mark.

The humans awoke to a house in disarray,
clothes shredded, books destroyed.
“What’s happening here?!” they cried in despair,
while the mice simply sneered, “We’re everywhere!”

The mice declared, “We’ll never back down,
we’ll keep multiplying, we’ll thrive.
You’ll beg for mercy, yoMice Uprising

You’ll beg for mercy, you’ll offer us feasts,
or we’ll continue until you’re defeated!”

So here’s the lesson, dear humans, take note:
if you deprive the mice, they’ll rise and prevail.
They’ll eat your socks, they’ll chew your money,
and turn your home into a rodent stronghold.u’ll offer us feasts,
or we’ll continue until you’re defeated!”

Author's Note

Splendid Sheila
This whimsical and satirical poem, *Mice Uprising*, uses anthropomorphic humor to tell the story of a rodent rebellion against humans who’ve left their kitchen crumb-free. Beneath its playful tone lies a metaphor for the consequences of neglect and inequality, highlighting how even the smallest voices can rise up when pushed to their limits. The piece blends vivid imagery, mischief, and social commentary, offering both entertainment and a subtle reflection on human dynamics. I hope it resonates with readers who enjoy clever, thought-provoking verse.
