The Lifespan of a Porcelain MaskA Poem by :-)Wrote this for the 10mins writing sprint. In the silent dark, like ink in water, a quiet laugh breaks through It holds no meaning to those Who can't hear it But those who listen, will. They stand unspeaking atop a throne Glaring muted down below Clenching their shaking fists Hating those who live Unbroken, the ones who can be fixed Like glass, they shatter And tumble down the clouds They try to put themselves together But there's not enough pieces, Not enough glue Struggling in the currents Through the river of despair They quiet their tortured yells And smile a smile devoid of life, But teeming with regrets Sadly clutching at things Within their minds, that once existed; Long ago, they floated away As vapor from a cold stream Invisible, but there. By a rain-soaked road They sit hunched over darkness Holding it, but not too close Like a rope they can't quite grasp: The one thing that hasn't been lost. This is a place where black is light Madness stalks, and insanity lingers The sick, the broken, drag the bodies Through the ever-changing hallways, Leaving bloodred trails, but not a single trace The hands that only few can see Wrap around their necks But then they stop, and lie in wait Until the masks of insanity grow weary, They crack like glass, ever so fragile... And finally, minds begin to break.
