The world tends to believe that there is no rhyme or reason to the evil that they call "pain". If something bad or "painful" occurs, whether large or minuscule, it is considered a bad thing. Bad is exactly how we all see pain. Yet, pain is a good thing. Pain keeps us honest. Pain reminds us how fragile we actually are as humans. We are beatable, breakable even, and pain shows us that. Pain is a thorn in our sides, and yet it saves us from ourselves. Without it, life would be an endless track of gain without loss, and the value of the good things in life would dissipate into a sea of meaninglessness.
You see, pain is an essential part of the human existence. We live, and we die. We gain, and we lose. Pain teaches us the lesson of life. The sun sets, but it also rises.
The title really caught my attention. It made me question what really does pain means.
According to the net:
Pain can be viewed in two ways:
1. highly unpleasant physical sensation caused by illness or injury.
2. mental suffering or distress.
In short both pain means it cause mental or physical hurt to us. And with that I agree with you here in your pondering piece.
Yes, Pain makes us more human without it - we can as good as the walking dead. Like you said:
“You see, pain is an essential part of the human existence. We live, and we die. We gain, and we lose. Pain teaches us the lesson of life.”
I think the reality of this piece is that… Pain reminds us our flaws as human that needs to be handled carefully and our weakness that needs to overcome.
With all that I was talking about the metal pain. But when you talk about the reality of physical pain – well that is the hardest test, the hardest part to surpass.
Physical pain due to illness is a hard life. We need to endure and live-up with the fault of our stars - The imperfection of our physical health. We are all imperfect but some people doesn’t have enough luxury to have a normal life. – that is a sad reality.
In such short piece, it fascinates me to view the types of pain we endure.
Very nice piece.
Good piece Aude; not something wholly unique, yet still within their lies sense.
Allow me to begin by just stating one thing - to begin a works with the largest generalising statement: "The world tends to believe..." is never the best idea, for does that mean that you know every existing entity that was, is, and will be - and their exact perception of what you are attempting to argue against? Also on the same wavelength, - perhaps the reason why in truth for this next acknowledgement - you use "we", "us", and "our" multiple times throughout the piece, and while understandable to a certain extent in certain works, in this piece, it almost seems as if the author is trying to tell himself something, while comparing himself to every other human.
Nevertheless! Onto the subject at hand. Now, perhaps it is just an illusion of mine, but is pain in itself not obvious in its meaning - from the moment of birth easily understood? Physically, pain is for our conscious awareness - simply to save us from drastically hurting ourselves. Mentally, pain is nothing other than learning lessons - atavistic lessons at best. Conflictingly, it is the logical individual who understands pain, and remains indifferent to its being - pain to the logical is almost logic in itself ... or more so, just ... the simplest of senses, (however, here, there are the logical individuals who seek, or hold, varying viewpoints and attitudes towards the sensation - this an advanced understanding.) There too are those who only see pain as a physical sensation, and it is these people whom I think you mean in this piece, am I correct? Also, there is a slight contradiction in this piece, was this perhaps free-written in a moment of frustration? You state "Bad is exactly how we all see pain", but almost instantly, it becomes apparent that there is at least one individual who does not see pain as "bad", get it? Therefore - and returning to my first point - this disputes with the usage of "The world tends to believe..."
The last couple of sentences however, are great, and could be a great quote if expanded upon Aude.

I really like this story. In it is truth. It is unrealistic to think we can go through life without experiencing pain, but experiencing pain makes joy all the sweeter. I happen to be in the camp that thinks there is more joy than pain in life. Pain is easier to tolerate when we put it in perspective.
