Midnight
Well all the colors as a child I did dream,
Be they of blue or quietest golden,
Have gone this night to more temperate lands
Where waters are free from my burden.
So the curse it was cast
And the anthems did blast
That the hour of youth I had long outgrown.
And as lovers take chance
Of the evening’s romance,
I’ll breathe a sigh and be on my own.
Oh every song of love I ever did hear,
I wished to touch most achingly.
And every truth which gripped me in my mind,
I fought it hard most mournfully.
But I’ve made amends,
Though I’ve lost some friends,
In my search for hope on this lonesome ground.
So when the morning wakes
As my heart drums break,
I’ll just breathe a sigh and not hear a sound.
And still the judges seek to define their lines
To harm and distract me from my peace;
Their naked words flood the stormy sea
Until the taste of fortune does increase.
So the cannonballs fly
And the tongues do lie
As they pile up high by the every gram.
But while the thunder roars,
And as heaven snores,
I’ll just breathe a sigh and not give a damn.
Well all the roads I have walked on my steady stroll,
I’ll recall when my stories are fully sung.
And every path which lays barren before my eyes,
I’ll pave till each brick is no longer young.
And though clocks do tick
And the fog is thick,
The curtains don’t fall at the end of the day.
So when Luna’s not shy,
And when stars rule the sky,
Then I’ll breathe a sigh and be on my way.
