In your armsA Poem by The Girl with the smileI was saved by you....I built a wall around my heart Made of bricks, and sticks, and decaying memories An impenetrable fortress
Brought on by fear Afraid of being harmed once again By sharp words and uncaring actions A heart full of lacerations hides in the darkness Alone……lonely…..but away from further injury No one allowed in I built a wall around my heart It seemed stable, unbreakable Until you came along You confused me You contradicted everything All of the things I learned from past experiences All of the things I thought to be true You weren’t like the others The structure I built Began to waver I built a wall around my heart That was now crumbling A brick falling, breaking into dust For each word of kindness Whispered into my ear Each sincere action Each warm kiss Each genuine smile After awhile My heart was left lying in a pile of rubble Unarmed and exposed I was no longer alone I let you in I built a wall around my heart And it was you who tore it down You saved me Pulled me out of the darkness Restored my faith in humanity Made me believe again Believe in love ……………………. In your arms I am safe There is no place I would rather be © 2013 The Girl with the smile |
