Blair Mannor. (Chapter Two)A Chapter by PikachuChapter Two When I
opened my eyes, I was in a hospital room. The memories of last night came back
in a flood of perplexity; the dream of my past, Isaac hitting me, the way I
found Mrs. Burke, that guy helping me. I sat up, and then felt a hand go to my
lower back, “Rayne, lay back down. You need your rest.” a gentle voice said in
my ear. My head turned to the face of the guy who paid
my bus fair, who caught me in mid fall, and who helped me when I found Mrs.
Burke. He was stunning. He looked
about nineteen, which was three years older than me. His black hair was across
his forehead and was long his neck and ears. His cat-like yellow eyes was
staring at me through the mass of hair. He was pale like a sickly person, but
looked as if he could kill someone with just a glare. His face was sculpted
beautifully. He had a somewhat angular face, with strong bone structure. He was wearing faded jean with a rip in the
knee. His shirt was bagging on his body, but I could still tell that he was all
muscles. “Rayne lay back down.” he said again. “No.
Where’s Mrs. Burke?” I asked him. He grabbed my pillow and put it against the
headrest and helped me back on to it. He sat back down on the chair beside me,
“Rayne, just calm down.” I looked to him, “How do you know my name? Who are
you?” I asked him. He
smiled, his mouth closed a bit, but I could see his teeth, nice and straight,
“My name is Dante Wolf.” Right then, the doctor came in. “Well, Miss Alexander,
everything seems to be in check. You can get dressed and go.” he smiled and
walked out, leaving me with more confusion in my head. I
carefully ripped out the IV that was in my hand, tossing it to the floor. I sat
up and swung my legs over the side of the bed and tried to stand. I stood, and
then started towards the bathroom. But that was a bad idea. My legs
started to wobble. They were weak from the medicine probably, and I started to
fall. Before I fell, Dante was beside me with his arm around my waist, helping
me to the bathroom. He helped
me inside the bathroom where I found my legs working again. “Thanks again.” I
smiled. He bowed and walked out. I slipped off my hospital gown and started
putting on my clothes. What in
the hell happened? I was so confused that my head started to hurt. I was
wondering if Mrs. Burke was okay. Last time she had laid eyes on her, her body
was mangled, covered with blood; a horrific scene indeed. She looked dead when I found her, which was
the scary part. I was getting my purse, when I caught a glimpse of myself in
the mirror. The white in my iris was still half-way covered my eye the green in
my eye. My hair was a mess. The curls
were stick up and out every which way. I quickly put it in a ponytail and
walked out with my purse on my shoulder. Dante held out my jacket once I came
out. I grabbed it and put it on my purse. I signed myself out of the hospital,
then Dante and I was out the door. He pulled
his hood up over his face as we crossed the street. I looked at him like he was
crazy, “Is something wrong?” I mean, it was summer, in Alabama! No one wears
hoodies in this heat. He
smiled, which again was the only part of his face I could see, “Yeah. I just
don’t like the sun. It hurts my eyes.” my eyebrow lifted. It was about seven
p.m., late afternoon. The sun was almost hidden by the trees, but their rays
were still visible. “Would
you like me to walk you home? Just in case you start feeling weary.” he sounded
sincere. “No, I can manage. I wouldn’t want to be a burden.” I smiled weakly. I hated being an inconvenience. He stopped,
“Rayne you’re not. Here, let me help.” He said, his hand coming near me. I
flinched at the gesture, falling backwards on my bottom. He put his hands up as
if he was surrendering, then bent down to help me up. He out my arm around his neck and picked me up
marriage style. While he started walking, I started thinking. Okay, I
don’t know if it’s me, or not, but this seems sort of eccentric. A guy, a very
attractive guy, that I don’t even know paying my bus fair, caught me in the
library, helped me with Mrs. Burke, and now walking, or carrying, me home. Kind
of outlandish, don’t you think? I looked at him, “How do you know my name?” I
was bold, but I needed to know. He smiled, “When I paid for your bus ride, the
door was open. And that guy that hit you was screaming ‘I’ll kill you Rayne.’
So I put the pieces together.” Well he smart, I thought, but then looked
at him again. “How did I know he hit you?” he said before I could get it out.
“You had a red hand print on your face.” I nodded at his response. I knew he
was right. He was one smart cookie, Robin would say. I
giggled at my thought. My head hurt, so I put my head on his chest. I closed my
eyes. When I opened them, we were at my house. He was
knocking on my door. No one answered. He knocked a second time. And again the
answer was pure silence. Which was very peculiar? Robin always answered the
door. She thought it was rude not to. The thought of him magically know where I
lived, was beyond my train of thought. He put me
down and stepped in front of me, “Stay right here.” he said, then he kicked my
door down. “What the…” I was cut off by him clamping his hand over my mouth.
“Shhh!” he shushed. He walked in and
walked around the first floor. Right then women’s scream sound inside of the
house. My mind
thought of one thing. Robin. I darted up the stairs and turned right
towards her room. I opened the door and ran in. “Robin!” Dante was behind me.
“I told you to wait...” I cut him off, “Shhh!” I mimicked him. He touched my
shoulder, but I ducked out of it. She’s not in her room. Where in the crap is she!, I thought. I
heard something crash in my room. Running in there, I looked around. “Robin!”
she was laying on my bed. I ran to her and hugged her. “Oh Robin, I’m so glad
that you’re here. You would not believe the night that I had!” I breathed out,
glad that she’s alright. Her hand
brushed my hair back, “I know dear.” a male voice said. My head shot up. I looked around, only one guy
was there. Dante was in the doorway, looking as shocked as I felt. I looked at
Robin and she, or he, smiled at me, “What’s wrong sweetie?” her light blue eyes
instantly turned colors, a dark blue, closer to black. I back up so fast that I
ran into Dante’s lag. Robin sat up and laugh, a sort of milky laugh. The same
voice that spoke to me came out of Robin’s mouth, “Awe, Rayne don’t run from
me. Come on. I want to tell you a secret.” Dante stepped in front of me,
“Valdemar, get your a*s out here. Quit playing this game.” he said into the
air. Then out
of nowhere Robin’s body started too moving. She stood up from my bed and her
body started contorting violently. She screamed in her voice. Her arms were
waving around like she was on fire. She started scratching at her skin. Blood
started to run down her arms. Her head turned around six times. I got up.
“Robin!” I yelled as tried to run to her. But, yet
again, Dante grabbed me around the waist, “No. That’s not Robin.” he whispered.
“What are you talking about? Of course it is!” I shot back. “He’s right, Rayne.
It’s not your precious Robin.” the voice came out again. Chills ran down my
spine. Then a man came out of her remains. Like literally. Her body slumped to
the ground like he just took off a coat. I looked up at him. His straight brown hair fell to his neck, a
little pasted his shoulder. He had a face that could carry it. He was muscular;
his shoulders were big and broad. His dark blue eyes, more of a shadowy color,
were staring at me like I was a main course. He was wearing a black suit, which
fit him very well. “Rayne, you look great. A lot like your mom at her age.” he
had an evil grin on. My face
hardened. “Opps, I think I struck a chord.” he said, his voice like velvet. I
stepped away from Dante’s arms, “Who the hell are you?” I asked the stranger,
Valdemar. “I don’t think you’re in any position to be
asking me questions.” His body seemed to move in a blink of an eye, his body
was pressed up against my body onto my book self. I felt all my books tumble at my feet. His
body was like a brick wall next to frame. I was not no super model, but I was
He-Man either. His hand wrapped around my neck, “Ah, you look so pretty when
the life is being slowly let out of you.” His breath was hot on my neck. My arms were held tightly against my sides, but my legs
were free. I brought my knee up, hard. He cursed, and threw me to the other
side of the room. I landed on Robin’s crumbled up body. I looked
up, to see Dante and Valdemar fighting each other. Dante punched Valdemar in
the face, and Valdemar returned the favor. Valdemar tried to do a cheap shot,
and went for the knees, but Dante was too fast. He quickly jumped back and hit
Valdemar straight in the stomach. Valdemar was fazed by this; he stumbled back
a few inches. Valdemar
jumped at him, as his hands lit a golden color. I looked at them; each hand had
a golden beam from the palm. He flung them forward. I couldn’t believe my eyes;
Dante shot back to my desk, breaking it as his weight fell on it. He did even touch him, I thought, stumped about what had happened.
Dante did even have time to recover as Valdemar started towards him, his hands
lighting up once more. I jumped up, and onto Valdemar’s back. He tried to grab at me, but I just pushed him
forward. With me on his back, it was easy. I just pushed my upper body towards
the floor, trying to trip him. His head hit the wall in front of us, and that
must have made him livid. The next
thing he did was killer to my back. He turned around and slammed my back into
the same wall. I fell off his back, to the ground hard. I looked back up at
him, he was standing over me. His facial expression could have killed a
politician. He grabbed my neck and picked me up. I could feel his hand grip my
neck tighter. I could
barely breathe, my esophagus being crushed by his grasp. His pushed me against
the wall, sliding me up until I couldn’t touch the ground with my feet. My
hands grabbed at his franticly, “Rayne, Rayne, Rayne. You’re a real pain, you
know that. Hmm, maybe I should just get rid of you now so Lilith won’t have to
deal with you,” he smiled then continued, “A lot less fuss in the end, don’t
you think?” then his smiled was gone, replaced by grimace. He squeezed tighter
and tighter. Then, out
of nowhere with hands glowing sliver, Dante grabbed Valdemar’s shoulders and
threw him against the wall opposite of us, next to my window and my, now
broken, desk. He stood
and put on the evil smile; “Well, it looks as if you have been training.”
opened my window, then turned to me and smiled, “Good-bye Rayne. We will meet
again. I promise you that.” then he jumped out of the window. I ran to the
window and looked down. There was
nothing down there. He wasn’t running of anything like that, and he certainly
wasn’t spatter on the ground. He just disappeared. I turned to Dante. I could
feel tears sting my eyes, and anger running through my veins. “Rayne, are you...”
I cut him off, “No! You, shut up! I have some question that you are going to
answer! Got it?” I said swiftly. He tossed
his hands up and stood inches after from me, “Ask away.” His jet black hair was
tousled, as his cat-like yellow eyes stared at me. I breathe in, “Who in the
hell was that?” His face
was difficult to read, “That was Valdemar McLegger. He is just, one of many,
assistants for a very powerful person; one of the most powerful ones at that.”
His voice was casual as his hand reached up to massage his shoulder. I
continued, “Who is the ‘powerful person’?” was my second question. “Lilith Van Reeve,” was all he said. I looked at him, puzzled, “Who is she?” His yellow eyes looked up to me, “Rayne, she’s your mother.”
