Water-worn Captain's Log (A Thing of the Deep)A Poem by Xanthous CrowA stab at a Lovecraftian/Lovecraftian Horror. Originally slated to be a short story, it morphed into a poem!
Set our for sail on the high seas
A boat full of cargo from the Hebrides O'er, o'er, o'er the waves A journey to the New World, slated for days And nigh sight of land forever A wash in Neptune's clutch, gentle, as a lover And though the seas be calmed Something b'neath stirs the deep An ancient, star-sworn promised be keep The boat flies far, hard and fast O'er the waves, the colonies in sight (howe'er far) at last! And does the deep come up to light A mountain of scales, of slime, and utmost fright So horrid it was that it drove the men that came With sheer terror unworldly, cast them insane And wrecked the boat with tentacle and claw Took up men inside sliming jaws Back to the deep did the terror-thing go So horrid it was for even the world to show © 2012 Xanthous Crow |
