Demons

Demons

A Poem by Xanthous Crow

"Hush, boy
Demons will never hurt you,"
She said
And that would put me to sleep
Safe, at ease
A fortress, tall and proud
Against the darkness
Rejoicing at first light of the dawn

"Hush, boy
Demons will never hurt you,"
She said
And that would comfort me somewhat
Although I'd still sleep with an eye open
The demons hid under beds and in shadows

"Hush, boy
Demons will never hurt you,"
She said
And it was that saying that I began to dread
I no longer slept
I was scared
Was I doing something wrong?

"Hush, boy
Demons will never hurt you,"
She said
And that would give me one last thought:
She never said
That anything else would never hurt me

"Hush, boy
Demons will never hurt you,"
She said
And that did nothing to me
Why do I feel this way?
Lost, trapped in shadow
There are greater things
More evil, more foul
To fear than demons
They are called people

I couldn't agree more Crow. There are monsters walking this earth that are not afraid to destroy anyone in their path for the thrill of it. Their demented forces that roam the earth looking for prey and sleeping very well in the process. Wel done.
