At Last We Are Free

At Last We Are Free

A Poem by Xanthous Crow

How many years must go by?
How many pints of blood must we spill?
Coupled with our sweat, our tears
When can we cast away these steel chains
And gags?
Will that take years?

Have we proven ourselves worthy?
Gone above and beyond,
Against the grain
For "freedom" that is freedom in name only
This isn't freedom, we aren't free
It is another shackle, another to add to the pain

It is time for a change
We will take charge
No matter what our destiny will be
Face it with fearlessness,
Modern day warriors!
At last we are free.
