Cosmic BackdropA Poem by Xanthous Crow{}So.
You're convinced that humanity Is the way to go. That we're infallible. The grandest thing in the world. That we're somehow valuable. But you don't see. You don't glimpse the great picture. You're all inclined to disagree. We're all nothing. Dust-mites in this cosmic backdrop. Do you find the sentiment numbing? We're infinitely small. Insignificant. From genius to neanderthal. You hide behind your religion. Your creeds and your gods. Yet you regard science - thinking! - with suspicion. Do you find the thought troubling? Is that why you like to believe that we're so great? To somehow validate this pointless struggling? Why don't you get it, why can't you see? All faint pinpricks against, say, a planet or galaxy. But, then again, you're all inclined to disagree. The old ways are on the outs. Religion, it seems, has been living its course. Advancement is coming, regardless of your doubts. You're all inclined to disagree. I think I should keep silent. But I can't help but wonder; what will it take to get you to see? © 2012 Xanthous Crow |
