The next morning, it was business as usual at the downtown police headquarters located

on Congress Street.

Officer Alfredo Fuentes, a balding, bantam-size veteran of O’Brien’s squad sat behind his

desk with the w***e sitting across from him. He was putting to paper everything she was saying.

"We would trick every night," said the w***e.

"Do you work for anyone?"

"I work for myself."

"I mean, do you have a pimp? Like Willie the Greek?"

"F**k Willie."

"Lets keep this conversation clean."

"I am keeping it clean."

Fuentes smiled.

"Oh, you like what you see?" She asked.

"Don’t let me lock you up for solicitation."

Abandoning any thoughts of seduction, the w***e crossed her legs and folded her arms across her chest. "Sorry."

Fuentes nodded.

"She picked up crazy people."

"Sadie Moore?"

She nodded

"Did you see her last John?"

"Yeah."

"What did he look like?"

"He was a Puerto Rican man, kind of looks like you, but much cuter."

"Just give me the description."

"I can do one better."

"Oh?"

"235BCK."

"Plate?"

"No, a f*****g telephone number!"

Hail Mary!

Fuentes looked at the w***e with a warm smile that creased his olive complication. He had something to work with. Something tangible. Something that O’Brien could use.

"Fantastic," he uttered.

"Can I smoke?"

"Light it up baby!"

She smiled.

Fuentes looked at the w***e sitting directly in front of him. She had a hard face, a deep light brown feature fixed like granite. Her eyes only offered seasoned contempt. She had a hell of a body, too: nice chest, good legs, black min-skirt. "What?" she asked as she watched him stare.

"A sex change?"

She smiled.

"I knew it!"

"Can I make a call?"

"Who do you want to talk to?"

"My ride."

"After we finish up here."

"But my ride goes to work in an hour."

"I’ll get Officer Cruz to take you home."

She smiled.

"What?"

"Why can’t you?"

"Because I don’t want to, and lets leave it at that."

She frowned.
